To support our Science topic of Electricity, Temple Class visited the Science Museum’s amazing displays based on the history of electricity and how it is used in everyday life and around the home. Artefacts ranged from a lightbulb invented by Thomas Edison, to a solar-powered race car and 1920s’ washing machine that could either be plugged into the mains or powered by a dog or goat in the garden! Our favourite exhibits were an automatic door, which is operated by motion sensors from 1933 and the Burgot Burglar Annunciator (like a record player) that once triggered by a burglar would phone the police and play a recorded message. Some children tried very hard to beat the sensors of the automatic door (Rudy here!), but it proved to be very sensitive and opened every time! Even Tamzin failed.
