Prior Weston achieves the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and Sport Quality Mark!
Katy recently applied for the school to be recognised for demonstrating good commitment to improvement in physical education & sport by using the self-evaluation tool, afPE quality mark in PE and sport.
‘I would like to thank all staff, students and parents for their ongoing support for the subject. It is really great to have gained this award to demonstrate how important PE and sport has become within this school. The self-evaluation has enabled me to see what we have achieved in the 18 months since I have been here and what we need to focus on next.’ - Katy Moore, PE specialist teacher.
Here is some information about the quality mark:
In June 2012 it was announced that Ofsted subject inspections would cease. Although teachers find Ofsted inspections very stressful, they do value this independent endorsement if they are judged to be good or outstanding.
All young people are entitled to benefit from a high quality physical education and there is significant evidence to show this supports other learning right across the curriculum. It also contributes to healthy and active lifestyles, improves emotional well being, reduces poor behaviour, increases attendance and develops key skills such as leadership, confidence and social skills.
High quality physical education and all the additional benefits are a great cause of celebration and the afPE Quality Mark will provide the independent endorsement.
Schools across the UK together with British Sovereignty schools are invited to apply for the afPE Quality Mark which will become the bench mark and industry standard for high quality. It will also help to ensure that all pupils will be entitled to a high quality statutory physical education curriculum from 5 to 16 years of age.
The purpose of the afPE Quality Mark
A prestigious award is a powerful way of celebrating success. The afPE Quality Mark will recognise, through a succinct self review and evaluation process, the strength and quality of physical education and sport in your school. It will raise the profile of the subject and the school both locally and nationally and will promote the high quality work that is being undertaken on a day to day basis. High quality physical education and sport makes a difference to the learning and experiences of children and young people both within the subject and more widely across the curriculum.
