From my very first day at school, I remember my time at Prior Weston being filled with colour, creativity and imagination. I joined midway through Year Two, in 1990, after my family moved for a while into my grandparents' flat around the corner. I sadly left at the end of Year Five when my family moved again, but those three short years developed in me a passion for storytelling. So much so, I went on to become a published children's author!

The summer fetes at school were epic. The whole school was decorated top to bottom until it was almost unrecognisable. One year the theme was 'under the sea' and teachers dressed as mermaids and fortune-telling sea witches while classrooms were transformed into underwater paradises and pirate ships. Ordinary school was often extraordinary, too. When we learned Victorians one year, my class had to dress up every day for a week in Victorian costume, stamp paper passes when we entered school to mimic life in a workhouse, and we did our sums on slates with chalk. We even went mud-larking on the Thames to collect old flotsam as Victorian children might have done. Immersing us in these stories and experiences really made learning come to life.

I am so happy to see Prior Weston still thriving, still such an important part of the local community, and still inspiring children by making learning creative, practical and fun. It is a true treasure of a school.
