At Prior Weston, we take pride in being a non-uniform school. It's a long-standing tradition that we hold dear, and I'd like to explain why we are passionate about maintaining our non-uniform status:
- We believe that a sense of community and belonging can be created without everyone looking the same. Our diversity and differences are what make Prior Weston a unique and special school, and we embrace and celebrate them!
- We value each child for their individuality, and not having a school uniform allows them to express themselves freely.
- Traditional school uniforms often use synthetic materials that can be uncomfortable for children's skin and sensory experiences. Additionally, they are not environmentally friendly.
- The children at Prior Weston have expressed their strong desire to not have a school uniform.
- Wearing two sets of clothes (one for school and one for outside of school) can actually be more expensive and require more frequent laundering to maintain "uniform readiness" each day.
- There is no evidence to support the idea that school uniforms have a positive impact on behaviour, achievement, or attendance.
Children should come to school in clothes they are comfortable in which is appropriate for the weather – no crop tops or skinny straps. Jewellery should also be safe – no large earrings, rings, bracelets or necklaces.
